Carrick CPR is a group of local people who train to:

  • Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation to a person who is not breathing, unresponsive and unconscious.
  • Use a defibrillator in conjunction with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Do the Heimlich Manoeuvre on a person who is choking.

In December 2005 a group of 18 people were trained by the Irish Red Cross. The cost of training was met by some of the proceeds of the Carrick Emetts GAA Club Christmas Day Swim at Creevy Lake.

In March 2007 a much larger group of people from Carrickmacross, Corduff and Raferagh were trained by the Irish Red Cross thanks to the generous sponsorship of €2000 from Mr Paul Mc Coy, Proprietor, Castleross Nursing and Retirement Village.

In July 2007 six members of the original group trained as Instructors. Their training was made possible by grant aid from the County Monaghan Fund. The Fund also provided financial resources to purchase training equipment.

In November 2008 a further group of Instructors was trained thanks again to financial support from the County Monaghan Fund.

Members of the public who would like to train should contact the Carrick CPR Co-ordinator, Michael Mc Mahon at 042 9661097 or 087 7535280.
