N2 Carrickmacross BypassN2 Carrickmacross Bypass
The most significant infrastructure development in Carrickmacross is the N2 Bypass of the town, which was officially opened on the 21st January 2005.  The scheme involved the construction of 8.5km of single carriageway road with seven bridge structures providing separation between national and local traffic.  The Bypass has been named Sli an Chaomhánaigh – ‘Kavanagh Way’ – to perpetuate the memory and literary achievements of the local poet and author Patrick Kavanagh.

The bypass has made a major impact on the town since it opened, not only reducing traffic and congestion, but has also improved pedestrian safety and radically reduced traffic pollution which in turn have enhanced the town centre environment and made a more pleasant place to visit.

Metropolitan Area Network
The Carrickmacross Metropolitan Area Network was completed in 2006, providing a fibre ring around Carrickmacross.

Social Housing in Carrickmacross
Carrickmacross Town Council in association with Respond Housing Association and Monaghan Co. Council developed 170 housing units on the Convent Lands, as part of the first integrated scheme of social, affordable and voluntary housing in the County.  This development included sixty-five social housing units, which were let by the local authorities, a further 81 voluntary housing units provided by Respond and funded through the Co. Council.  In order to meet the needs of persons for affordable housing a further twenty-four houses were provided for sale under the affordable scheme.  The provision of a community building as part of the development has helped to address issues such as pre-tenancy training, estate management and childcare in the scheme.
