Why Carhaix?

  • Carhaix is the right size – just a little bigger than Carrickmacross.

  • The people are extremely friendly and hospitable and love Ireland and the Irish.

  • It is 80km from the Ferry Port of Roscoff, which has a regular service from Cork and Rosslare.

Students come by bus from a wide area.

  • It is the market centre of an agricultural region.

  • It has a well-developed industrial base with a mix of food processing and non-food products.

  • The French spoken in Carhaix is relatively easy for non-native speakers to understand.

  • It retains and promotes aspects of the Celtic culture: traditional dancing, music and song.

  • It has a primary and secondary school in which the Breton Language is the medium of instruction.
