The Walking Tour of Carrickmacross aims to bring alive the vibrant history of the Town, including the Famine Times, the two families who owned the town for many years: The Shirley Estate and the Bath Estate, and the War of Independence. Carrickmacross has had many famous residents, including Daniel McGovern and Patrick Kavanagh with plaques dedicated to their work are seen as part of the tour. Other cultural items of interest are Carrickmacross Lace and the Harry Clarke stained glass windows in local Churches.
The tour takes approximately 90 minutes so please wear comfortable walking shoes. Due to the inclement Irish weather we advise you to bring an umbrella and a rain jacket. If the weather conditions are too bad we will bring the tour to an indoor location. There is no charge to take part in the tour. No booking is required, just come to the front of the Shirley Arms Hotel at 11am any Saturday from June 3rd to September 24th 2023.

Tours are organised by Carrickmacross Chamber of Commerce.
