Tidy Town Committee Announces Shortlist for Local Awards

Tidy Town Committee Announces Shortlist for Local Awards

The local Tidy Town Committee, with the assistance of outside adjudication, has shortlisted the names for this years Local Awards under the many headings below. The local awards will hopefully spark further interest in the work of the committee and help improve the performance in the national competition. The town has looked exceptionally good this year and everyone’s efforts have been handsomely rewarded with a gold medal again this year. A detailed analysis of this years results has shown just how successful Carrickmacross is in this competition. There were 849 entries in total in the 2014 national competition. Carrick came an overall 15th position which means our town is in the top 1.75% of the competition.

This is a considerable achievement considering that the town was 37th and in the top 4% last year. More importantly, the town is now only six points behind the 2014 Overall Winner, Kilkenny. This strong consistent performance over the 30 years means Carrickmacross is well placed to challenge for a Category Award in the next few years but the committee is under no illusion that such an achievement is going to require a massive community effort and a large amount of co-operation from the business and residential communities, the new municipal authority, schools and other bodies and the committee has no reason to believe that such support for pride in our town will not be found wanting. The Tidy Town Committee kicks of the 2015 campaign in the coming weeks with the Local Awards Evening on 25th September in the Workhouse and a Public Meeting in early October.
