The Pride in Place adjudication took place on Wed 6th August and one aspect of the visit that impressed was the number of collaborations with Carrickmacross’ Tidy Town Committee on a wide range of issues and initiatives. The local schools were represented by Inver College whose students outlined their Biodiversity journey and developments in partnership with the Tidy Town Committee.
The local Camera Club was represented by Brian Byrne who highlighted the Clubs support for Tidy Towns via their contributing some spectacular photographs to the annual calendar, a major source of fundraising.
Local industry was highlighted by Brian Finegan from Shabra Plastics who played a key role in the Tidy Towns introduction of the reverse vending plastic bottle recycling scheme which went on to influence Government policy on the circular economy.
Monaghan Volunteer personnel were also present to outline the two Summer schemes where members of the immigrant community assisted the local TT committee with flower tending, seat painting and litter picking schemes.
Each group got some time with the adjudicators to highlight their support for the Tidy Town ethos and the adjudicators were suitably impressed.
The judges visited the Eco Meadow, Main Street, the Toy Library, Celtic Crumb and the Carrickmacross Lace Gallery in Market Square, the Allotments, the Sensory Garden in Cloughvalley, Lisanisk Lake Park and the Civic Centre.
