Old Toys Get a New Life with Carrickmacross Tidy Town’s “RePlay” Community Sculpture Project

The Carrickmacross Tidy Town Committee is calling on local children, families and schools to donate their unwanted small plastic toys to help create a unique new community sculpture as part of Climate Action Week.

RePlay: A Community Sculpture Project will see donated plastic toys transformed by an artist into a new piece of art, giving toys that might otherwise be discarded a completely new life.

The project is being organised by Carrickmacross Tidy Town as part of Climate Action Week, encouraging the local community to think differently about waste and discover the creative possibilities of reusing everyday materials.

The artist has already started work on the sculpture, and donations are now open. Families are encouraged to search toy boxes, cupboards and bedrooms for small plastic toys that are no longer wanted and give them the opportunity to become part of something new.

Small Plastic Toys Wanted!

Donations can be left at charity shops in Carrickmacross, the Toy Library and participating local schools.

We are looking for small, clean plastic toys only that can be incorporated into the sculpture.

Please note: No electronic or battery-operated toys.

All toys should be donated before 10 October so that the artist has time to incorporate them into the finished sculpture.

Come and See the Finished Sculpture

The completed work will be unveiled at the RePlay community event at The Workhouse, Carrickmacross (A81 E372), at 3pm on Saturday, 17 October.

The event will give children, families and members of the community an opportunity to see how unwanted toys have been transformed into a new piece of community art — and children who donated toys can come along to see how their contributions have become part of something much bigger.

The project has a simple message:

Old toys. A new work of art.

By involving local children directly in the creation of the sculpture, Carrickmacross Tidy Town hopes RePlay will encourage conversations about reuse, recycling, creativity and the value of giving unwanted items a second life.

Everyone in the community is encouraged to get involved — whether by donating a toy, spreading the word or coming along on 17 October to see the finished creation.
