A group of adults from Carhaix, including Town Twinning President Marie Louise Huiban, were in Carrickmacross from Wednesday evening, March 16th to Sunday morning, March 20th. They walked with members of Carrickmacross/Carhaix Town Twinning Association in the local St Patrick’s Day Parade in the town.
A Soirée was held in the Shirley Arms Hotel on Friday, March 18th for the French visitors, their hosts and friends of Carrickmacross/Carhaix Town Twinning Association. The Farney Singers, directed by Carmel Watts and young people from Ceoltóirí Drumlin provided the musical entertainment.
It is also hoped to welcome a group of musicians and singers from Carhaix next Spring to coincide with the Féile Patrick Byrne which is organised by Carrickmacross Comhaltas Ceoltóirí from Thursday 29th March to Sunday, April 1st 2012.
Plans to organise another soccer exchange tournament between Carrickmacross Rovers Football Club and DC Carhaix Football Club were discussed by coaches and officials from the two clubs. It is already agreed that the first leg of the event will take place in Carhaix at Halloween this year.
Arrangements to facilitate a number of language learning exchanges for young people from Carrickmacross were finalised. The will spend from two to four weeks early this summer in Carhaix improving their oral French fluency. French exchange partners will be in Carrickmacross later in the year.
