Inver College First Year Boys win their place in Futsal Ulster Final

INver-College-Futsal-TeamInver College First Year boys’ football team triumphed in the Monaghan Regional Futsal finals last Tuesday. The matches were held in The Peace Link Clones. The Inver boys romped through all the group stages racking up big scores against all opposing teams. Prolific scorer Dylan Byrne tormented defences scoring 5 goals en route to the final. Captain Rory McMahon and defence stalwart Lawrence Markey continuously repelled all attacks and staged what would be an enthralling final between Inver College and Colaiste Oiriall.

Coláiste Oiriall got a great start going into a 2 nil lead. The Inver College boys however were resilient in their efforts and battled with goals from Sean Martin and Dylan McDonald to leave it 2-2 at half time. It was end to end in the second period but both sides were staunch defensively. With two minutes on the clock, Inver took the lead through talisman Dylan Byrne. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be and in the dying seconds Colaiste Oiriall found an equaliser to send the game to extra time.

Inver College keeper Killian Daly pulled off two unbelievable saves to keep his team in the game. With 30 seconds on the clock, Inver defence broke up an attack and went on the counter attack with a sublime pass from Ciaran Murray to set up Dylan Byrne to edge Inver College in front. There was very little time to find another equaliser and Inver stood strong to win the Regional Futsal final. These boys now will represent their school and county in the Ulster finals in Letterkenny.
