Fine Gael TD for Cavan-Monaghan, Heather Humphreys, has welcomed confirmation from the Minister for the Environment that he has approved €3.9 million in funding for the Carrickmacross Water Supply Scheme.
Speaking on the matter, Deputy Humphreys said:
“I am delighted with the announcement from Minister Hogan that this significant level of funding has been approved.
“This funding is being provided under the Water Services Investment Programme 2010-2013 and will allow Monaghan County Council to accept the tender of Veolia Water for the Carrickmacross Water Supply Scheme Design, Build and Operate Contract (DBO).
“The contract includes the design, construction and operation of facilities to abstract and pump water from 8 production wells and also the treatment and storage for distribution to the existing network.
“The Minister’s approval today clears the way for Monaghan County Council to accept the tender for this contact and commence construction as soon as possible.
“This contract is part of the overall allocation of €40 million in Water Services in Monaghan over the course of the current Water Services Investment Programme and is further evidence of the Government’s commitment to provide a quality water supply in Co Monaghan,” said Deputy Humphreys.
