Carrickmacross Chamber’s Free Walking Tour brings our town’s past to life, taking you beyond the familiar streets and buildings to discover the people and events that helped shape the town we know today. From the influence of the Bath and Shirley Estates and the hardships of the Great Famine, to the town’s role during the War of Independence, Carrickmacross is steeped in history.
The tour is also a great opportunity to learn about the heritage that makes Carrickmacross unique. Discover the story of Carrickmacross Lace, a tradition dating back to the 1820s, as well as the town’s historic churches, beautiful Harry Clarke stained-glass windows and connections with well-known figures including poet Patrick Kavanagh. Even if you have lived or still live in Carrickmacross, there is still so much more you can see and learn.
Best of all, the Carrickmacross Walking Tours are free, open to locals and visitors alike, and are led by our expert guides who are passionate about sharing the town’s story.
