Call for Footpath & Lighting extension at Lurgans

Cllr. Matt CarthySouth Monaghan Sinn Féin Councillor, Matt Carthy, has renewed his call for extended public Footpath and Lighting to be put in place at the Lurgans area in Carrickmacross.  Cllr. Carthy confirmed this week that as a result of an official question by him at a recent meeting of Monaghan County Council that the matter will now be on the agenda of an upcoming Roads Area Committee.

Cllr. Carthy outlined that this part of the town has grown substantially in recent years and that the number of pedestrians had increased and there were concerns that the public lighting and footpaths were not sufficient.  He explained that there was huge pressure on the council’s road and lighting budgets as a result of government cutbacks but he would endeavour to get the support of the council to agree a timeframe for these necessary works.
