As part of the 1916 centenary celebrations the Carrickmacross-Castleblayney Municipal District have organised two flag raising ceremony’s in Carrickmacross and Castleblayney on Easter Sunday the 27th of March, 2016.
Carrickmacross Flag Raising
At 10:15a.m. Easter Sunday in Carrickmacross the Stedfast Brass Band will march down Farney Street, through Main Street to reach the Courthouse for 10:30a.m. The band will be led by the Carrickmacross 3rd Monaghan Scout Colour Party. Fionn O Callaghan, Patrician High School, Orla Murnaghan St. Louis Convent, Jessica McMahon Inver College will assist with reading the Proclamation. The tri-colour will then be raised at the Courthouse by the Municipal District Mayor Cllr. P.J. O’Hanlon to the tune of the national anthem played by the Stedfast Brass Band. The Brass Band will also play a number of tunes to conclude this part of the 1916 centenary celebrations. Everyone welcome to come out and see this colourful, musical and historical event.
Castleblayney Flag Raising
At 12 noon outside the Scout Hall in Castleblayney two students from Castleblayney College Kyle Mc Gee and Colin Gorman and two students from Our Lady’s Secondary School Frank Connolly and Orlaith Maguire will assist with reading the Proclamation. The tri-colour will then be raised by the Municipal District Mayor Cllr. P.J. O’Hanlon. Everyone welcome and refreshments and music will be provided in the Scout Hall following this historical event.
