Carthy is new Border authority Chairman |
by Joe McCabe, Apex News & Public Relations SOUTH Monaghan Sinn Fein councillor Matt Carthy has been elected as the Chairman of the Border Regional Authority at that body’s annual General Meeting which was held in Monaghan Town on Wednesday. Castleblayney Fine Gael councillor, Gary Carville has been elected as Vice Chairman. The Border Regional Authority represents local authorities in counties Monaghan, Cavan, Louth, Leitrim, Sligo, and Donegal. Also at Wednesday's meeting the delegates directed the Director of the Authority Mr. Matt Donnelly from County Cavan to defer the adoption of major new regional planning guidelines until further information is obtained on legislation that has recently gone through the Oireachtas, which, it was claimed, could have serious repercussions in relation to the costs for all parties on future judicial reviews. Mid Monaghan Fine Gael councillor Owen Bannigan claimed that a request was sent to President McAleese to defer signing the Bill, until more information is made available to local authorities. |
