Planning Permission Refused For Ballybay Road Development |
by Joe McCabe, Apex News & Public Relations An Bord Pleanala has refused planning permission for a major residential development for Carrick‘s Ballybay Road. Permission was initially granted in November last year for 74 houses and 81 apartments on a 16-acre site at Cloughvalley Lower on the Ballybay Road. The developers behind the project, Sillan Homes Ltd, also sought to build a retirement village and a creche on the site. However, following an appeal to An Bord Pleanala the development has been refused on the basis that the town‘s wastewater treatment plant is currently overloaded with no definitive commencement date for the upgrading of the treatment system. The board also ruled that the project would be excessive in relation to the size of the existing town and that some of the houses proposed would be too prominent in the landscape. |
