"Fianna Fáil/ Green Party Decisions at National Level Affect us all at Local Level" - Tourish
25ú Bealtaine 2009
In a hard hitting statement Carrickmacross Town Council Sinn Féin candidate has criticised Fianna Fáil and Green Party representatives for continuing to stand by their government that is responsible for so much hardship."
He said: “I have yet to hear the response of local Fianna Fáíl/ Green Party representatives to the savage destruction of our education system in the recent budgets by the very parties they represent and that they are asking voters to support on June 5th. The silence from these candidates in relation to the real issues foisted upon our schools is deafening; a silence which seemingly indicates their support for their parties policies of destruction in education."
“In my view a vote for any government party candidate on June 5th will be used by the government as a vote in agreement with the disgraceful cut backs in education. A vote for these parties is a vote against the children of this country and their right to a proper education and future. A vote for Fianna Fail or the Green Party is a vote to ensure that education in this country is set back by at least 20 years. It is a vote for a reduction in Special Needs Assistants, an increase in the number of pupils in the classroom, an increase in the financial burden on parents. It is a vote which will lead to an increase in early school leaving which is obviously related to an increase in anti-social behaviour as indicated in a recent ESRI report. We often hear local Fianna Fail/ Green Party representatives make statements on the real problem of anti-social behaviour; this whilst they represent parties whose short sighted policies in government will add to the problem rather than deal with it."
“We watch as government party representatives attempt to play the local card as they wish to distance themselves from the failed and retrograde steps taken by this government, in education and in a myriad of other issues. They will talk of local people, local issues. They will attempt to convince the voter that local issues and government policies are far removed from each other. I am appealing to the people of Carrickmacross not to be taken in by this."
“Schools, Parents, Students and indeed every citizen in Carrickmacross will be negatively affected by those decisions made at national level by their parties, decisions that these candidates, by their involvement in Fianna Fáil and the Green Party, are obviously supportive of."
“June 5th is our time to tell this government that we are no longer willing to be subject to their false promises, their cut backs, their levies and their attempts to penalise the ordinary Irish citizen for their mistakes. Now is the time to tell them that we will no longer be subjected to their bank bail outs, their waste of taxpayers’ money, their inability to govern our country. Now is the time that we can fight back against the cut backs that affect us all at local level."
“Local issues are dictated by national policies. These policies have failed! We have seen what the government has done to the country - can we afford to let them do it to our town? Please vote for the future of this town and your children by supporting myself and my colleagues in Sinn Féin - the only real alternative.”
